Our History

St. Bartholomew's Episcopal Church, commonly known as St. Bart's, was founded on August 23, 1961 when the residents of Delaware Township, which later became Cherry Hill, gathered with Reverend Albert W. Van Duzer, who was the rector of Grace Church Merchantville at the time. The church's growth led to a significant milestone in May 1972 when it transitioned from a Mission to a Parish. Situated within the Diocese of New Jersey and a member of the global Anglican Communion, St. Bart's caters to a diverse congregation hailing from the greater tri-county area and Philadelphia.

St. Bart's uplifting services take place on Sunday mornings at 10 am and are accessible both in person and through a live stream. Our location is handicap friendly.  Revitalized under the guidance of The Reverend Dr. Candine E. Johnson, who serves as our Priest-in-Charge, the church is experiencing a period of resurgence and expansion. Embodying the mission "to live in faith and act in love," the community at St. Bart's devotes its hearts upward to God, channels its talents and support inward to the parish community, and extends its hands outward to engage in meaningful work in the wider world.
